OnePlus announced their Marshmallow update schedule
In a blog post in its official forum earlier today, OnePlus officially announced its plans for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for their devices. If you don’t remember the company has three devices available to consumers at the moment, the OnePlus One, the OnePlus 2, and the budget mid-ranger OnePlus X. If you have one of those devices, you will have to wait a while for the update as it won’t be here in 2015.
OnePlus devices will get Android 6.0 in 2016
OnePlus announce specific plans only for its flagship range. Specifically, we learn that the OxygenOS update to Marshmallow will come some time in the first quarter of 2016, for both the One and the 2, and we also learned that the update for the OnePlus 2 will include the Google fingerprint reader API that was announced in Android M. The OnePlus 2 had its own implementation for the fingerprint sensor, since it was not supported natively in the Android Lollipop version, but come Marshmallow, the company will be switching to the standard Android M implementation.
If you are wondering when the update will be available for the newly announced OnePlus X, then you’re out of luck for now, since the company did not share a specific time-frame for the update. We are only informed that they are working hard to bring Masrhmallow to the X, but the update will come in a later time.
In the spirit of keeping up with open source practices though, the Chinese startup has just released the OnePlus X kernel sources to their GitHub page.
