This summer JBL will release what they claim to be the “world’s first gesture control smart headphones”, the brightly-coloured JBL Reflect Response wireless Bluetooth earbuds.

The earphones are equipped with motion sensing technology that recognises hand gestures, which can be used to swap tracks or answer calls completely hands-free.

So long as you’re not running through the Australian outback and swatting away flies, the technology should work fine, especially as they’re launching at £129 (US $199).

The battery life is said to be eight hours on a single charge and they are designed with fitness and sports in mind: they have a snug fit and the “Reflect” part of their title is from their high-visibility, reflective cable for safety.

They’ll be out in the summer in a choice of four colours: red, green, blue and black.
